Lead Software Engineer
About Incision
Operating rooms are under pressure. Staffing shortages, increasing procedural complexity, and growing demand for care make it harder than ever for hospitals to keep perioperative teams prepared and supported.
At Incision, we help hospitals improve how perioperative teams access knowledge, learn, and perform. Incision Assist helps surgical teams work with greater confidence and consistency by providing instant access to the information they need before and during procedures. Through MySPD and Academy, we support sterile processing and perioperative professionals with practical, accredited education that strengthens knowledge and performance across the surgical pathway.
Today, hospitals in more than 20 countries use Incision to onboard staff faster, preserve critical knowledge, strengthen team collaboration, and improve operational performance.

Your role
Take technical ownership of software delivery within our core engineering team
Ensure features are designed and implemented to a consistently high engineering standard
Coordinate technical implementation across Backend, Frontend, Mobile and QA where required
Translate product and business requirements into clear technical approaches and implementation plans
Design and implement backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and NestJS
Architect solutions on AWS, primarily using serverless and managed services
Make technical decisions around service boundaries, APIs, data models, integrations and asynchronous workflows
Review designs, pull requests and implementation approaches for complex or high-risk changes
Identify technical risks early and help engineers resolve architectural or implementation issues before they affect delivery
Establish and continuously improve coding standards, engineering practices and development guidelines
Support engineers through mentoring, pair programming, code reviews and technical design sessions
Help maintain consistent engineering standards across multiple development teams, including external engineering partners
Work closely with our architect on system architecture, scalability, reliability and technical evolution
Ensure new functionality includes appropriate testing, observability, monitoring, security, operational readiness and documentation
Improve engineering productivity through better tooling, automation and development practices
Help adopt and maintain effective AI-assisted engineering practices where they improve software delivery
Participate in architecture discussions, ADRs and technical roadmap development
Contribute directly to implementation when projects require senior hands-on engineering support
What you'll bring
8+ years of software engineering experience, with experience operating at Lead or strong Senior / Tech Lead level
Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js
Production experience with NestJS, Express, Fastify or comparable Node.js frameworks
Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems and modern backend design

Strong understanding of automated testing and modern testing strategies
Experience with CI/CD and multi-environment deployment pipelines
Strong understanding of observability and monitoring, including logs, metrics, tracing, alerting and production troubleshooting
Ability to design systems with operational visibility in mind and diagnose complex production issues across application and infrastructure layers
Good understanding of application security, authentication, authorization and secure software development practices
Experience improving performance, scalability and reliability of production systems
Strong Git and pull-request based development practices
Proven experience mentoring engineers and improving the technical quality of a team
Comfortable challenging implementation decisions and constructively raising the engineering bar
